Data portal landing page

The homepage of the data portal presents an overview for all completed phases and drives thus far and can be filtered by phase. The summary measures provide information about automation performance, weather, road and traffic conditions. General information regarding the types of road users encountered as well as the age and mobility challenges of the riders are also provided.

Playground

For full access to the Playground, you will need to register as a user with us. The Playground offers registered users a chance to query for specific data within the ADS for Rural America dataset. It is divided into two distinct types of queries: Common and Custom.

Common queries are tailored to answer frequently asked questions.

Custom queries go deeper, allowing a user to search for specific pieces of vehicle and rider information, using other pieces of vehicle/rider/temporal information as criteria for a search.

Types of data being collected

  • Video data from the safety driver to examine kinematics/performance/workload
  • Questionnaire data from the riders regarding trust and acceptance
  • Physiological data from riders and safety driver regarding stress/anxiety
  • Automation performance data, documenting challenges
  • Impacts of environment, such as grip, surface state, surface layer thickness, surface temperature, air temperature, dew point and frost point, relative humidity, and wind speed and direction
  • To protect the privacy of our participants, video footage of participants will only be available to those who register and sign a Data Usage Agreement with the University of Iowa. This requires entities to make a special request and limits their use of the data.

Data is being made publicly available for analysis and will be augmented for ease of use. It will be available for five years after completion of the study (project completion: summer 2023).
